The EMI discs should never have been released: Ogdon fumbles and shambles his way through music he'd played much of his adult life with little or no effort. For a man who sight-read the Brahms B flat concerto at a concert (!!!) in his early 20s, to struggle with this repertoire ought to /5(6).

Scriabin wrote many works for solo piano in his relatively short life - he was only 43 when he died. These 10 Piano Sonatas are some of the best known, but there are also 47 Preludes, 26 Etudes (Studies), and a number of Mazurkas and other works such as those played by Vladimir Ashkenazy on this Double Decca CD/5(30).

Scriabin's music is great and Ogden's skill as a pianist is evident. In addition, one gets two cds for the price of one, including all ten sonatas and a few other assorted pieces, intelligently placed between the sonatas based on chronological order/5(10).

This CD features the acclaimed Finnish pianist Olli Mustonen with piano works by Alexander Scriabin, which have become his signature pieces in recital. The virtuoso sets of Etudes and Preludes cover a wide range of late-Romantic expressions, from heroic to religious, ecstatic to melancholic.
